SEFRIA™ Fentanyl Assay

As the first enzyme immunoassay of its kind, the SEFRIA™ Fentanyl Assay utilizes both synthetic and recombinant enzyme fragments of beta-galactosidase for superb sensitivity and vastly improved analysis. With its extremely low cut-off, this assay is ideal for monitoring transdermal patches and transmucosal fentanyl citrate lozenges.
The SEFRIA Fentanyl Assay is an effective screening tool for both monitoring compliance and detecting fentanyl abuse.
Assay Characteristics
  • Cut-off as low as 1 ng/mL leads to fewer false-negative results
  • Excellent separation between controls and calibrators
  • No cross-reactivity with norfentanyl
  • Liquid-stable, ready-to-use reagents, calibrators, and controls
  • Application protocols for all major clinical chemistry analyzers
  • Packaging tailored to your laboratory’s unique needs
Background
Fentanyl was first synthesized in the late 1950s and has proven to be significantly more effective than conventional opioids such as morphine or pethidine (meperidine). The potent synthetic opioid analgesic was introduced as a widely used palliative agent, mainly in the form of transdermal patches and other fast-acting dosage forms for the treatment of chronic pain, particularly in cancer patients.

Since the mid-1970s, fentanyl has also been used as a recreational drug. It appears to have a similar effect to heroin but with a more substantial sedative effect. Due to its short duration of action, there is a high risk of addiction. Fentanyl is available on the illegal market in various forms.
