Your benefits at a glance
  • Fast and simple screening method for ketamine and norketamine
  • Flexible cut-off options at 50 ng/mL and 100 ng/mL
  • No significant cross-reactivity with other substances
  • 100% sensitivity and specificity at both cutoff levels
  • Liquid, ready-to-use reagents, calibrators, and controls
  • Compatible with standard clinical chemistry analyzer systems

Ketamine: Between Medicine and Abuse

Ketamine is a fast-acting, non-barbiturate-based dissociative anesthetic used in both human and veterinary medicine. Structurally related to phencyclidine (PCP) it is less potent, featuring a quicker onset of action and a shorter duration of effect.
In recent years, ketamine has gained importance as a complementary analgesic with opioid-sparing effects, as well as for its antidepressant properties in certain clinical situations.
However, the increasing abuse of ketamine as a recreational drug poses a challenge: As it may cause significant alterations in consciousness, Ketamine is often consumed outside medical contexts. Therefore, reliable and rapid detection is essential for clinical and forensic applications.
